Born in Seoul, South Korea, New York-based YOONA HUR explores cultural identity, spirituality and materiality through ceramics and paintings. She takes inspirations from nature, Korean traditional arts, architecture, Dansaekwha movement, Hinduism and Buddhism. Sitting among her ceramics and paintings in her Brooklyn studio, the artist wears Lafayette 148 Leather Jacket and Organic Cotton Poplin Warren Pant.

Pictured in process, the collaboration with Lafayette 148 presents Yoona Hur’s debut of wearable ceramics. Celebrating timeless, architectural themes and ancient artifacts from Greco-Roman cultures, the pendants’ motifs are microcosms of the artist’s ceramic practice, where history of ceramics and spiritual themes play a key role. Crafted as amulets, heirlooms and talismans for the body, each limited-edition piece is intended to feel intimate, vulnerable, playful and expansive—a reflection of the Lafayette 148 Pre-Fall 2025 collection.

“Emily [Smith] and I worked together very closely on the collection,” Hur says of the collaboration. “There was a lot of dialog of what ceramic means to her and also what it means to me. So, when I presented her with the idea of amphora or the bird, she was very excited to see them in the collection. These forms and textures relate to the feminine form, while bringing a physical intimacy close to the body and the heart of the wearer. Ultimately, I want the pendants to represent the duality of strength and vulnerability that all women hold.”

“This studio is my sanctuary,” says Yoona Hur. “I consider it as a place of retreat and a place of creation. When I come in, I light my incense, and that’s like a ritual of starting the day with an offering to the space. I find a lot of energy and inspiration and quietude, so this space offers me that place to reflect and and be focused, and also invite people over for tea to welcome them into my practice.”
